What you can sell

How you would use Unlockable

  1. 1

Upload the track as a single link and drop it in a story or a mailing list.

  2. 2

Bundle the demo, the alternate take and the stems as one collection at one price.

  3. 3

Cap a link to the first 100 unlocks for a release that should feel limited.

  4. 4

Add a voice note introducing the track before the fan pays.

Why it works for musicians

Streaming decided that music is effectively free at the point of listening, and a release cycle gives a fan three or four chances a year to pay you anything. Everything else you make in between — the demo, the alternate take, the stems, the version with the different bridge — has no home, so it usually goes unshared or gets given away in exchange for an email.

A paid link gives that material a place to live without competing with the release. It is not a paywall on your music; it is the extra material that was never going to be on the album anyway, priced at what a fan will happily pay for something they cannot get elsewhere. Because it sits behind a link rather than a platform, you can also cap it — a demo available to the first hundred people is a different object from a demo sitting on a store page forever.

It will not build the audience, and it is not a substitute for distribution. Streaming and playlists still do the reaching. This is for the minority of listeners who want more than the record, and who will pay for it if you give them somewhere to do that.

What these sell for: A single unreleased track is a £3–£6 purchase. Bundle the demo, the alternate take and the stems and the same release supports £10–£20.

On a sale the buyer covers the privacy & security fee, and card processing comes out of our share — so a £10 price pays you £8. See the full split.

How you share it

Musicians questions

Do I need to be on a label or distributor?

No. Upload the file, set a price and share the link. This is for the material that streaming will not pay for — demos, alternate takes, stems — not a replacement for release distribution.

How do I stop a track leaking after one person buys it?

Nothing prevents a determined buyer from re-sharing a file, and no platform can promise otherwise. What a per-buyer link changes is that access is granted deliberately and can be capped or expired, so a limited release stays limited.

Can I limit how many people get an early release?

Yes. Cap the link by number of unlocks and it closes itself once the count is reached — useful for a fan-first release where scarcity is the point.
