Why it works for stock photos

Stock photography through an agency means somebody else sets the price, takes a cut, and owns the customer. The upside is distribution, and for a photographer with no audience it is a real upside. For one with an existing following, it is a poor trade: the same images could be sold directly at a price of your choosing, to people who already like your work.

Selling direct changes the unit as well as the margin. Single images are rarely worth the transaction at a few pounds each; themed sets and bulk packs price better, describe better, and are easier to buy. The same archive can be grouped several ways for different buyers without re-exporting anything.

The honest limitation is traffic. There is no marketplace here finding buyers for you, which is exactly why the fee is lower. If discovery is what you need, an agency is still the better answer.

Example products and pricing

Illustrations, not a rate card — you set your own prices, in USD, GBP or EUR.

£25

Themed set, 30 images

£60

Bulk pack, 200 images

£12

Textures and backgrounds

What these sell for: £12 for a themed set, £60 for a bulk pack. Per-image pricing rarely clears the transaction cost.

On a sale the buyer covers the privacy & security fee, and card processing comes out of our share — so a £25 price pays you £20. See the full split.

Stock photos questions

How is this different from a stock agency?

The agency sets the price and takes a cut; here you set both and keep the buyer relationship. The trade-off is that you also do the marketing.

Should I sell single images?

Usually not. Themed sets and bulk packs price better and are easier to describe, and a single image at £2 is rarely worth the transaction.

Can I sell the same archive in different groupings?

Yes. Themed sets and a complete archive can coexist at different prices without re-uploading anything.
