Why it works for digital art

A finished illustration is not one product, and treating it as one is why so much digital art sells for so little. The same drawing exists as a phone wallpaper, a desktop wallpaper, a high-resolution file, a layered source file, and often a set of brushes and a process video that document how it was made. Each of those is a different product for a different buyer.

Splitting them costs nothing because the work is done. Wallpaper packs are impulse purchases at a low price; the source file sells to people who want to learn from the construction rather than look at the result; brushes sell to other artists who never cared about the piece itself. A process video alongside the brushes turns a tool into a lesson.

What it will not do is stop sharing. A determined buyer can redistribute a file, and no delivery mechanism prevents that. What changes is that each version of the work has a price attached rather than one price covering a fraction of its value.

£6

Wallpaper pack

£15

Layered source file

£12

Brushes + process video

What these sell for: Wallpapers are £6, the source file £15. Pricing the layered file is where most of the value sits.

On a sale the buyer covers the privacy & security fee, and card processing comes out of our share — so a £6 price pays you £4.80. See the full split.

Digital art questions

Should I sell the source file?

If you are comfortable with it, yes — it is usually the higher-priced product and it attracts buyers who want to learn rather than just look.

What resolution should wallpapers be?

Offer phone and desktop sizes. Packaging both as one collection removes a decision for the buyer and prices better than either alone.

Can I sell brushes and a process video together?

Yes, and they complement each other: the brushes are the tool, the video is how to use it.
