Why it works for spreadsheet creators
A spreadsheet is the least impressive-looking product on this site and frequently one of the most valuable, because what the buyer lacks is not the ability to make a sheet β it is confidence in the assumptions. Which rows matter, how the formulas should chain, what a defensible margin calculation looks like: that judgement is what a business pays for, and it is why financial models routinely sell for more than courses.
Usability drives the price more than sophistication does. A clearly structured model with protected formulas, a labelled input block and a worked example can be driven by a stranger; a cleverer one nobody can navigate becomes a support liability that costs more in time than it earned. The documentation is not decoration β it is what makes the difference between a product and a problem.
What it cannot do is validate the assumptions it contains. A model shows what follows from a set of inputs, not whether those inputs are right, and buyers who expect the second will be disappointed. Saying that plainly is better for everyone: it sets the expectation, and it positions the tool as what it is β a way to test thinking quickly.

Spreadsheet creators questions
Why would someone pay for a spreadsheet?
For the assumptions and the structure. Building a spreadsheet is easy; building one whose inputs are clearly separated, whose formulas survive being changed, and whose assumptions are visible is not. Buyers are paying for a model that someone competent has already debugged, which is a real saving on work most people do badly.
What makes a model usable by a stranger?
Colour-coded input cells, protected formula cells, a short instruction block and one worked example with real numbers. A model the buyer cannot drive generates support questions that exceed what you were paid, and that is the most common reason spreadsheet products get refunded.
Does an Excel model work in Google Sheets?
Usually with caveats. Most formulas convert cleanly, but pivot tables, macros and some functions behave differently or not at all. Naming the platform it was built and tested on prevents the buyer discovering the incompatibility after paying, which is the kind of surprise that ends in a refund.
